As an editor, design thinking extends to both text and the space the work inhabits. I am committed to creating increasingly inclusive reading experiences and fostering a literary community that represents a variety of approaches, aesthetics, and voices.
I founded Tab Journal with designer Claudine Jaenichen in 2012. I am the editor of Power and Identity in the Creative Writing Classroom, which launched the New Writing Viewpoints series at Multilingual Matters.

I teach at Chapman University in Orange, CA, where I’ve directed the MFA in Creative Writing program, founded Health Humanities, directed the Center for Undergraduate Excellence, and served on the Senate Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Working with California Humanities, I facilitated conversations among healthcare providers. I served on the board of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs.
