I founded Tab Journal with designer Claudine Jaenichen in 2012. I am the editor of Power and Identity in the Creative Writing Classroom, which launched the New Writing Viewpoints series at Multilingual Matters.

I teach at Chapman University in Orange, CA, where I direct the MFA in Creative Writing program, founded Health Humanities, directed the Center for Undergraduate Excellence, and serve on the Senate Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I facilitate conversations among healthcare providers for California Humanities and also served on the board of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs.
